Delhi Government Clarifies: No Basis for AAP Welfare Schemes

The latest information regarding the Delhi Government’s clarification on the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) welfare schemes centers around two specific schemes that were announced by AAP but have stirred controversy due to official government clarifications:

  • Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana: This scheme was announced to provide Rs 2,100 per month to non-tax paying women. However, the Delhi government’s Department of Women and Child Development has issued a public notice stating that no such scheme has been officially notified by the government. They emphasized that any registration or data collection for this scheme by any private individual or political party is fraudulent and unauthorized.
  • Sanjeevani Yojana: Similarly, for the scheme promising free medical treatment for those over 60 years old, the Health and Family Welfare Department of Delhi has clarified that this scheme does not exist officially, warning the public against sharing personal details for these “non-existent” schemes.

This has led to political contention, with AAP leaders defending the schemes as promises for public welfare, while critics, including BJP leaders, have accused AAP of misleading the public for electoral gains ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The controversy was highlighted when AAP started a door-to-door registration campaign for these schemes, leading to public notices from government departments disowning any official basis for these schemes.

This situation underscores a significant political and administrative discord in Delhi, where the elected government and the bureaucracy, influenced by the central government through the Lieutenant Governor, appear at odds over the implementation and legitimacy of these welfare promises.
